Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci was born on December 12, 1961 within Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast and she has the record of being recognized with 10/10 scores during an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi, the Romanian gymnastics instructor who became Comaneci's coach later on, discovered her at age six. She first competed at the junior national championships of Romania in the year 1969, she finished 13th. And in 1970, the Romanian gymnast won. She won three golds in her very first contest in a junior pre-Olympic meeting in 1972 that was held by the communist bloc nations. Between 1973 and 1974, she was the junior all-round champion. In her very first competition at a senior level Lyudmila Turkishcheva of Russia won five gold medals as well being awarded a silver. In 1976, she was the winner of the American Cup at the New York City Olympics. She also became the first woman in history to dismount the parallel bars using backwards double salto. She started her career as a model skater with her younger twin sister Nina Wayne as part of the shows that traveled around called Ice Capades. The show featured stage-moving ice-skating shows.
